Baby Driver

I not quite as high on it as the consensus. There were a lot of cartoony/action movie tropes that felt out of place. Ansel Elgort and Lily James were a little stiff at times.

That said, it was a freaking blast. Edgar Wright is the king of creative shots. Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx and especially John Hamm were great.

The Prestige - easy 10/10

Have yet to see a Nolan film I did not absolutely love, and this is probably his masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. Yeah, I know, I'm 10 years behind somehow. Sue me. Anyway, not sure if anyone else even cares to engage in discussion about a decade old film but I did have one question:

If Angier is cloning himself with every use of Tesla's machine, with the trick he's doing at the end, doesn't that mean he killed himself the very first time and it's his "clones" carrying on day after day? Or is the machine supposed to be transporting the real Angier and creating a clone in his place (which falls in the trap door)? Kind of confusing because if that is the case, it means the real Angier was actually shot by clone Angier the very first time he used the machine.

Now, a question I can't answer. Why the fuck does Hugh Jackmans accent change the last ten minutes. When he meets cutter after dropping off the machine and in the final scene with Borden. Has a completely different accent and I have no logical explanation.

I love the Prestige. One of those movies you want to put back on as soon as it's over to figure out what you missed the first time through.

Wife wanted to watch 50 Shades Darker yesterday. Easily the worst movie I've ever seen.

Watched moana 10/10 for a kids film. Rock is on point music is amazing better than frozen. Everyone should see it once
Great flick. It sadly would never catch on like Frozen did.

Its funny, we just watched that last week and the "You're Welcome" song came on & I said to my wife, its hard to believe he was a wrestler at some point. The dude is out of this world talented & humble. He deserves all the success he gets.

Saw Despicable Me 3.

6/10 (solid for this type of movie)

Same flick as the 2nd, but not as good as the 1st. All the minions scenes are gold as usual.

The Villian is played by Trey Parker. He's using Stan Marsh's voice to portray an 80's child actor who was canceled due to aging. He is over the top 80s, from the music to the clothes and catch phrases. I found it pretty hilarious.

Boarding Gate 5/10

One of the few Olivier Assayas films that I hadn't seen yet (Summer Hours, Carlos, Personal Shopper, Clean, etc...)

Would have given this a higher grade for Asia Argento's performance alone, except for the randomness of the whole thing (and not in a good way). Michael Madsen was OK as the ex-lover on a power trip, but the dialogue was way too clunky. Can be worth seeing if you want to check out one of Argento's best performances to date, but I dunno. Also, have absolutely no idea why this film is called Boarding Gate. *shrugs*

The Founder: 6.5/10; love docs, business movies

Fist Fight: 7.25/10; Charlie Day is really funny.

Fist Fight was great. I can get annoyed by teacher-based comedies because they are an easy mark, but this one did it with the right balance of mockery of teachers while pointing out all the other layers... and both Day and Ice Cube killed.

I'm thinking of watching the historically terrible Gymkata today. Much like most 80s kids, I never saw it because it was so very unsuccessful at the time. Since so many shows draw inspiration for comedy from bad 80's movies, I thought I'd watch one of the unintentionally hilarious founding films. Anyone here watch it?

Going to see Spiderman tonight. Not much of a 3D fan, but splurged for it for this one. Marvel tends to do 3D well.

I stayed away from the marketing for the last 3 weeks, because Sony was showing way too much footage. Just checked RT and it's over 90%, so that bodes well.

Also going to a see a movie called "The Big Sick". Getting a lot of early Oscar buzz.

edit - I will be sure to look out for any feminist propaganda in Spiderman. Can't have it ruining any more comic book movies.

I'm going tonight as well...

As some of you guys know Spider-Man is my all-time favorite superhero (Doctor Doom, all-time favorite villain)... Here's to hoping it's done well!

Fist Fight was one of those movies that should have been terrible, but everyone involved basically nailed their roles and made it a fun comedy. As I mentioned in my review of it, I'm now convinced that Charlie Day can make any comedy worth watching. Dude just kills every role he's given.

I wonder if Fox is ever going to release the FF4 rights to Marvel. They have so thoroughly fucked up that franchise that it is irredeemable.

If anything they need to release Dr. Doom. He would be a perfect big bad for the MCU post-Infinity War. A scientist as smart as Tony Stark, who has an armored battle suit who also happens to be a sorcerer as powerful as Dr. Strange. And he is the authoritarian dictator of his own country (a little something for the Trump fans).

Totally agree 100%...

Doom would be fantastic in the MCU since you'd really need either the FF or, when he's really tripping, the whole of the Avengers.... Doom/Ultron would be ideal for an Avengers: Secret Wars with a Guardians cross-over.. which is really how Venom should've been introduced, just like in the original comics -- not with a standalone film that seems to have little to do with Spider-Man: Homecoming.

:chuckle: @ bolded BTW...
