Rebuilding Trade Ideas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Interesting. That seems like a lot to give up for Kemba Walker. They would have to be extremely confident in everything else they already have in place. Maybe... #4, Hollins, and Gee for #21, Oden, and Batum? Something like that...

Baron Davis/Kyrie Irving/Ramon Sessions
Christian Eyenga/Manny Harris/Daniel Gibson
Nicolas Batum/Chris Singleton?
J.J. Hickson/Antawn Jamison/Samardo Samuels
Greg Oden/Anderson Varejao/Semih Erden

That wouldn't count using either the TPE or Antawn Jamison. Honestly, if we used both of those in a trade to get an all-star 2-guard, or even just another tough offensive low-post player, this team could be SCARY good.

That was kind of a pipe dream. He's the only Blazer outside of Oden that I really want. It (Irving, Batum, Singleton, Oden) would be a nice foundation to kick off the rebuild.

I'm fairly certain that Oden can only be sign and traded. We couldn't trade for him during the draft, and he would have to want to come to cleveland. With the potential for a lockout, it just can't really happen.

Yeah, you're right. Would Portland be able to sign him prior to the draft/lockout? I mean, players like Dwight Howard can sign extensions in the season. I think Carmelo signed one with NYC.

It would take a lot of work to get the trade agreed upon. Then get Oden to sign knowing full well he's coming to Cleveland. Lots o' work.

The Blazers would have to sign his 8.8 million dollar tender to make him restricted...

Wow, that must of taken you forever. Good work. I like it. I would prefer to bundle 17 and 20 for an unprotected (or top 5 protected) pick in 2012.

Nah not really. I have spent a lot of time with trades this summer thus far.

Is this thread supposed to be for trade ideas that make the team better or worse?
Just a quick update from the op since this is a rather dated thread.
Cavs trade delonte west, sebastian telfair for hollins sessions and pick.. pick is thrown in because Cavs are saving minnesota money because they can cut Delont

Cavs trade pick to Boston for Erden and Harangody.

net gain : Hollins,Sessions, Harangody, Erdin cost Telfair and West

win = Cavs. Cavs bolster their back court depth with a stretch 4 and cetner with size and awareness and bolster the trade value of both Sessions and Hollins.

Mo Williams, Jamario Moon for Baron Davis and 1st round pick. They trade a small forward they didnt want and a point guard for a point guard of the same caliber but a little bit older. 1st round pick turns into 1st overall.
Win = Cavs Cavs pay 12 million for the 1st pick in the draft and have an all star caliber point guard who can help the team whether he plays 20 minutes or 30 and is old enough to be more concerned about winning than minutes.

Sign alonzo Gee . Gee played odd man out for the wizards and spurs. This was a good acquisition as gee may be retained and is showing the form that led him to honors in the dev league.

Samardo Samuels - in the NBA summer league Samardo samuel proved he could do the things that caused him to go undrafted. Samardo was more a victim of a system and than his actual talent. people tend to forget that Samuels was a top 5 recruit out of high school and historically they tend to fare well in the NBA.

Christian Eyenga.- Once he gets team defense down ( mostly attributed to still learning the language. He is a solid prospect and looked like a star at times on the court. Chrsitians offseason could have a big impact on the Cavs turnaround.

The cavs dont need Youth at this point. They have youth. an exhorbinant amount of youth .
they dont need to clear cap space. the team salary is jsut fine. it may be a little high for a 19 win team but they have an owner willing to spend to get so its rather expected. plus only two guys oon the roster make more than 10 million. quite tame in the NBA and one of those is expiring.

so these trade ideas should have the following
1. team involved with the trade should actually want or have a need for the player being traded.

2. Chris Grant isnt a gm to make the NBA candyland for other GM's. so trading away our good players for mediocre talent who will never be anything more. really is not going to happen.

3. Cap space. unless a team is in luxury tax. Teams make moves to clear cap space to make other moves. for instance. the clipper pull the trigger on the mo williams trade because they save 12 million and get a younger = caliber player and they get a guy who was a proven defender short term and an expiring long term. trade makes sense for both teams and it happens.

4. Be cognizant of the teams Philosphy and Goals. Your goal may be one thing but the teams is another. Ultimately a move is done or not done is directly related to the teams goals not yours. ignoring this factor just makes some trade suggestions look even more ridiculous. outright fire sales by the cavs arent going to happen. Their philosphy is that to develop talent properly you want solid leadeship and a veteran presence. Also look at teams that are young. once they have their youth they start acquiring veterans to take a stab at the next level.
What this means is that. Cavs arent going to trade veterans for youth just to trade veterans to youth. The cavs value their veterans and expect them to be a key component in developing their youth. it makes no sense to trade away established contributoers to questions marks then turnaround and have to trade out the young talent to get experienced vets.

5. Dont Throw away money.. Cavs make moves to improve. they dont make moves to get worse. Ive seen some suggestions about buying out talent that can contribute. that makes no sense. if the cavs traded for hamilton they would prefer to play him. but if he doesnt want to be here they would buy him out. because the other component of the trade still justify the value.
buyouts have to make sense. not to do it just to do it. Every trade the Cavs have made post lebron era have been an upgrade and sensible spending. its just spending that other clubs arent always willing to do.

6. Big Picture. You want to speculate a doable trade. look at the other teams needs, their roster salary and past five trade and recent draft picks. A team with two guards with 45% inside fg attempts isnt going to want ramon sessions nor will a team who needs a guy who passes outside in. just wont happen. a team with estabished perimeter guard with solid perimeter defense isnt going to want Daniel Gibson. a team who needs a point guard but is near the luxury tax is not going to want Baron Davis salary.

The cavs werent trading jamison to get Biedrens. They were trading to get a draft pick. Golden stat wanted to get rid of an 27 million contract. for a 13 miliion one . saving them 14 million.and freeing up contract space and flexibility and allow them to move Lee over to the 5.

so millions of trade ideas with cavs paying extra for a guy like Biedrens is just absurd.

well thats my rant about trade machine suggestions.

m guessing the trade is davis for iggy and nocioni

while this trade addresses a need for the cavs, it doesnt address a need for the 76ers
Nociano is an expiring but does have a team option somehow i get the impression that philly if they did trade iggy. nocioni would not be part of that package.

While the remaining amount of their contracts is the same(since options dont count toward the salary cap until they are exercised). Although philly is looking for experienced players I do not see the 76ers pulling the trigger because they have Williams and Jru Holiday.

Jru is entering his third year and has shown improvement both years. Williams is getting better as well and was very effective for the 76ers splitting time at the 1 and 2.

I dont see how Baron davis gets them closer. seems like they would be more likely to take jamisons expiring. contract for frontcourt depth than Davis.

I also dont see manny harris beating out alonzo gee for a roster spot if the cavs bring in 4 draft picks as expected.

Reports say Michael Beasley will be traded if the TWolves draft DWill. He scored 19 ppg last year and 5 rpg but is also a head case. Hes still very young at 22 and fills a need at SF. Wondering what you guys thought about him and what would have to be given up for him?

inefficient headcase tweener who doesn't rebound well at all...no thanks. not at the price they'll want, at least.

if they got Beasley they might as well push for Blatche too though so they can trot out the dumbest front court of all time. talk about a hilarious team to watch...

I'm surprised his rebounding is so bad. In college he averaged 12.4 rpg, I thought that would of transfered over to the pro games. I guess not.

We'd need Eddie Griffin too god rest his soul.
