The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread (not coaching-related)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

Pay kevin Ollie to coach, billups as an assistant

Having Ollie as a coach would be weird... He looks like he could be Kyries dad. The guy looks like a older Kyrie.

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

Ollie wouldn't leave UConn for this jumbled mess, especially after tonight

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

Fantastic post above by Kovanovich, highly thought out and intelligent post there. Definitely don't want to get suckered into overpaying for Deng, that would be a travesty. Lu's legs are shot, he's just going to continue wearing down IMO.

"But we gave up draft picks for these guys!"

So true, think of it as we basically gave up JJ Hickson and we were treated to the lowlight of Omri Casspi's career. Sometimes you just have to let the birds fly away.

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

Ollie would be nice.

I want him because he's a great coach. Also if things go poorly we can just try to trade him and Ira Newble for Mike Bibby or Michael Redd for old times sake.

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

Fire MB. Hire Lionel. Keep Griffin.

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

The Wizards showed flashes of figuring it out, while finishing with a 29-53 record. The CAVS conversely have shown flashes of figuring it out while currently carrying a 31-47 record. I am kind a excited for the future, with a heaping teaspoon of reality. CAVS need to fill the small forward spot with something better than the crap they tried this year. Deng is a good player, but not a very good fit. They need Bennett to become the player closer to what he was suppose to be. Without resigning Hawes and addressing SF, they probably will be taking a giant step backward.

After what I saw last night, I wouldn't want Kevin Ollie coming in as the coach. His offense wasn't good for half of the game; to me seemed uncoordinated and sloppy. Also, his defense constantly let a guy get open on the wing and/or constantly let them drive and kick it out or pass it to the block. Maybe that's the players fault. What I did like was that he was a very energetic and fiery coach and really got his players motivated for the game. Loved it how he practically lost his voice at half. But I just don't know if he could be what we're looking for, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

Experience at the position. For Thomas specifically, former Hall of Fame player, coach, and executive in the league. Great eye for talent (we're gonna need it since we won't be drafting in the top5 any longer) as well as a decade's worth of experience executing trades and signing free agents.

We need this sort of GM to pair with Mike Brown and Dan Gilbert.

Please be trolling. Please don't be serious. I don't think my head can grasp the idea of anyone actually thinking that Thomas as a GM for our team is a good idea. He practically haunts the dreams of Knicks fans.

Kenny Smith would be my top pick for the GM job. He's a guy who has a reputation around the league and demands respect. I know for a fact he wouldn't let this drama and nonsense go on if he were here. He knows basketball really well and IMO could turn out to be the next Steve Kerr in terms of player/executive success. Now I wouldn't mine Thomas coming in a smaller role (assistant GM, etc.) if not id love to bring in Chauncey Billups for a role like that. Also, no matter which direction we go I want to see Alex Jansen come in as an assistant coach. I was really upset when he let and we didn't offer him any sort of assistant job for the Cavs. He's going to be a great coach one day and I really hope we can get him back.

If we can have Griffy be something like a senior president of b.o like he was in Phoenix and then bring in Kenny Smith as GM and Thomas/Billups as assistant GM that'd be a great direction to go for the future.

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

If we dont land a capable SF this off season and Deng walks then I want CJ to start with Karasev being slowly groomed to take over that spot during the course of the season.

I feel pretty confident our SF issue is going to solved one way or another. Our odd assortment of bigs is what worries me.

1. mandatory "get lebron james" - very unlikely

2. try and keep Deng for a reasonable amount- unlikely

3. other FAs, in particular Ariza or Hayward- probably going to have to overpay a little but that is Cleveland sports- fair chance

4. trades- Martel Webster is an improved version of CJ Miles, is on a decent contract and the Wizards have a logjam at the 3 if they keep Ariza. They are going to be looking for a veteran back-up point guard this off-season....

5.draft a SF- they probably won't be starter quality their first year but you never know. Also, this guarantees no more Gee.

Re: The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread

People want to hire Kevin Ollie based on 6 gamed compared to two full seasons? The tourney run was impressive but c'mon, that's being a prisoner of the moment. If you want to go the college route I would say Fred Hoiberg is the best option. He has experience, albeit brief as an assistant coach in the NBA, and has front office experience. His scheme is exactly what Griffin is looking for, as well. He might not be a realistic hire though. He probably doesn't want to come here, and with Gilbert inevitably controlling the coaching search, I don't think he's going to look at a college coach from ISU
