Tyson Chandler

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Man, how much i would love to have Tyson Chandler on the Cavs!!

I don't have one set player I want the Cavs to obtain, I just know they need to get a big in to put Z on the bench..and get a another big on the wing and a swingman at the 2..

I think Chandler and Charlie V have to be at the top of Ferry's shopping list. Probably Camby as well .

I don't think its so much that Z needs to go to the bench as it is a matchup issue. There are some guys against whom Z is ineffective defensively, and unfortunately, that includes a top level team we are likely to be battling for years. Chandler -- or some other starting or backup center who can match up better defensively with Howard, Yao, and any other dominant big man who comes down the pike -- needs to be on the team to address those problems. For a lot of other teams, Z would be a better matchup than Chandler against some teams because of his offensive ability.

If we were to add Chandler and Charlie V. this off-season, then IMO that right there would be enough for us to win a championship next year. assuming Chandler could stay healthy for at least 60 games and the playoffs.

Throw in Kidd and he's the cherry on top.

But how do we sign both Villa and Kidd? WE've only got one MLE and I doubt Kidd will sign (even to play with his butt buddy LeBron) for the Bi-Annual or Vet Min. Maybe we could pull a S&T for Villanueva?

Personally I'd rather have Bass than Villa because this team needs a freaking POST UP option, not a face up big man. But there's not much available to us outside of Sheed and Bass.

Here's a question...if he was available, would any of you want Elton Brand?

It would be good to have him, but what we need is an Offensive inside player !

New Orleans Hornets Coach Byron Scott anticipating upcoming season

New Orleans Hornets Coach Byron Scott, facing reporters for the first time since his team was eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs April 29, said Friday he views his one-year contract status this coming season as "a challenge," just as it was two years ago when the team won its only division championship.

Scott said the decision not to extend the contract of assistant coach Kenny Gattison, who is leaving the team, was mutual.

Scott also added that surgery revealed center Tyson Chandler's injured ankle was worse than thought, and Chandler's rehabilitation could take four months, close to the beginning of training camp in October.

Scott oversaw the first of the Hornets' predraft workouts with a half-dozen prospects, including North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough, then discussed his and the team's future.

Scott signed a two-year extension last summer because, at the time, he said he wanted his voice and message to remain fresh with his players.

"I had the same situation two years ago, so why should I think of myself as a lame duck or any other things people say about a coach on his last year?" Scott said. "To me, it's a challenge.

"If we go back to last summer when I signed the deal, I specifically said I wanted a two-year deal just to see how this was going to play out. To make sure the players were still interested, still learning and still understanding where I'm coming from. They're not tired of me, and I'm not tired of them. So I never look at that as a lame duck. Like I said, I love the competition. This is going to be fun for me this year."

Scott said he will approach the season as he did in 2007-08 when the Hornets won a team-record 56 regular-season games and expects his players to respond in the same fashion.

"This is not uncharted water for me." Scott said. "I've been in this situation before, as have a lot of other coaches. Like I said, it doesn't bother me whatsoever. I've got a job to do; I'm going to go out and do it to the best of my ability.

"We'll have a great season, as long as we can stay healthy, add a few more pieces to the puzzle. And I'm very confident in my meetings with Jeff (Bower, general manager) and Hugh (Weber, team president) that we're headed in the right direction. I feel very good about those meetings. I'm excited about this year coming up."

Gattison's departure comes after a season in which New Orleans' big men, Gattison's primary coaching responsibility, either regressed or showed little progress. But that, Scott said, did not enter into the decision to part ways.

Gattison, a former Hornets player in Charlotte who joined the coaching staff in 2003, did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment.

"He just felt it was time for him to move on; that he had done about as much here as he could do," Scott said. "And I agreed with him that, 'All right, it's time for us to look elsewhere, as well.' Like I said, we had a meeting for about an hour. We talked about everything, and it was mutual. Both of us left the meeting feeling pretty good about it. So we'll move on.

"Kenny wanted to pursue some other opportunities, and I felt great about that with him. The biggest thing is we wish him all the best. Kenny and I have been friends for a long time and will continue to be friends. He's a big part of what we've done here the last four or five seasons, and I wish him all the best."

Scott said he plans to hire another assistant to tutor the team's big men but is in no rush to fill the vacancy. He also said he'd again reach out to former Hornets forward P.J. Brown to gauge Brown's interest in the job.

Scott said Chandler, who underwent surgery on his left ankle and toe two weeks ago in New York, is upbeat. Calls to Chandler's agent, Jeff Schwartz, were not returned.

"He had the ankle surgery, and they said it was a lot worse off than they thought when they went in there," Scott said. "They also went in there and cleaned the toe up a little more. He's feeling really good. He was excited about the surgery and couldn't wait to get back on the basketball court, and he really feels this is going to give him the agility and the movement that he had a few years ago, so he can get back to playing like his old self."

Scott said it was unlikely Chandler would be traded this summer.

A cause for concern for Tyson. 4 months of rehab. not good.

Maybe this injury will ultimately make the hornets want to trade Tyson more than ever before.

I really started thinking a lot about Chandler today and how he'd be a good fit here. But those 3 you named, if they could all possibly land here - that'd be flat out INSANE!

Chandler and Charlie V would be a great duo up front. And I just really want Kidd to be serious about having interest coming to Cleveland - because it would be so nice to have a real PG off the bench for a change. He's so good at setting up his bigs, it'd be a perfect situation to help develop Hickson into an offensive player. I don't think you could ask for a better offseason than that.

A long shot? Yes - but it's nice to think all 3 of those players are at least obtainable.

I think kidd is an extreme long shot....With dallas's deep pockets he will get way overpaid to stay in dallas.

I think some of the same trading chips to land chandler would need to land charlie v. I dont think charlie v will be available for mere mle. As someone pointed out, if AV is worth more than the mle, surely Charlie is, pl;us charlie is restricted....i think the bucks would be thrilled if they could keep him for only the mle. I think at this point, we would be lucky to land one of the big men, but no way both. Personally I prefer Chandler even with the ankle surgery, but he seams the least available. There are grumblings coming out of NO he is no longer available.

With Chandler's forthcoming rehab, recent injury history, and long-term contract (player option for $12 mil through 2010-2011) - I think from a on court reliability standpoint (that is, healthily staying 'on' the court and the lack of an offensive game while on the court - as I think Chris Paul gets the most out of Chandler on the offensive end than anyone could in the league) and from a fiscal standpoint (his contract running through 2010-2011 at $12 mil), the Cavs would be better off using their trade assets for someone who is a safer acquisition.

Since it seems as though Bosh will opt out and become a UFA, and any team trading for him before that will be expected by Toronto to have to give up the farm (be it OKC, Chi, GSW). These offers, as far as talent, exceed anything that Cleveland could offer. Now, whether those teams that would potentially satisfy Toronto's demands in a return package for Bosh (and some bloated contracts, presumably) would even want to give up so much for a presumably one to half year rental is also sketchy. This leads me to think Bosh won't get traded and he will opt out - something I see for Cleveland as a good thing as this potential FA is the only truly viable way to get Chris Bosh on the Cavs.

That's why I see Marcus Camby being revisited this summer. With LAC getting the 1st overall pick and drafting Blake Griffin, their glut of big men is furthered. Zach Randolph is untradable unless he's shipped with a Gordon, Thornton, or Griffin. Obviously, they would not trade Blake. So the question comes down to Kaman or Camby. True 7' centers are not easy to come by and I feel the Clippers will be inclined to try to pair up to long term pieces in the starting front court in Kaman and Griffin. This, obviously, makes Camby available. I think we have the assets to grab a polished, seasoned, and playoff experienced Camby (trying to accentuate this in light of the 'wide-eyed' Mo Williams in the playoffs). Not to mention his contract does expire in the off season (financial preparation for a seemingly confident Cavs organization for the 2010 off season -- potentially spending two max contracts in Lebron and Bosh/player)

Now, not to get too off topic but this would be a crap load of money tied up and I think if the Cavs are really serious about Bosh in FA then they should be buying 1st round picks this year and next and hoping that the guys that they draft play, contribute, and even out-play the compensation of the rookie deals - as money is going to be tied up like non other in 2010 if two max contracts are signed. Who those players are, I'm not sure. But with bringing in a Camby, you would have to find a young center, not tweener PF, to be ready to play when Z's and Camby's time are up.

This is what I see as the most prudent route - limiting spending this off season (which shouldn't be a huge deal, as these economic times will hinder the majority of FA's ability to sign long-term and big compensation deals) - maybe bring in a Kidd for the 2.1 exception for 2 years, a Rasheed for cheaper than Charlie V would cost, and a trade for Camby as your 3 major veteran acquisitions. The find your athletic swingman through the draft and your (presumably) multiple firsts (using cash to buy or Pavs' unguaranteed contract) and get a Terrance Williams or Sam Young plus others to play and contribute on their rookie contracts.

So, yeah, about Tyson, I think we have better options that are as easily/more attainable which would really work well in a prudent financial and roster management light as well.

The key to this off-season is for Ferry to thread the needle: We want to get better, especially at the 4 and 5, but we also don't want to make getting Bosh an impossibility.
