What to do with the TPE?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Send Tristan Thompson to Detroit for Hamilton's contract and their unprotected 2012 1st.

So, even though you hate the Thompson pick, you still think we can get an unprotected 1st for him?!

It's actually only a 7 game difference. 41 instead of 48. But keep in mind, using the last 5 years (or 3 years, or whatever) of records to determine the draft order is only something that people have theorized, mostly because of how the NHL handled their draft after losing an entire season not that long ago. The situation has never occurred before in the NBA, and I haven't found any rule that covers it. So we can't yet say what would happen, we can only speculate.

I definately missed a season there lol. I know it never happened in the NBA, but I figure that the NHL is pretty much the presedence in this respect so it would make sense to go with that formula. But I really hope they don't, because if they do we get railed. And because we get railed I would bet on it happening that way.

In all fairness, MoFlo, Optimus is echoing a majority of the board's sentiment since the deadline that we could get a lottery pick (or top-10 protected in 2012) simply for taking the Hamilton contract. He's valuing TT as the equivalent to lifting that protection ... which might be a little extreme, even for a TT hater.

Why do people keep talking about the Clippers trade as a game-changer? It wasn't. The Clippers made the right move, and we got VERY lucky. End of story. If GMs fail to trade 2012 picks it won't be because of the Clippers trade -- it will be because the 2012 draft class is stacked.

BUT picks will be traded -- they may not be lottery picks -- but picks WILL be traded. They are every single year, and every year on draft day people combine later picks to get a lottery pick. It happens EVERY SINGLE YEAR. I've posted proof of this elsewhere, and I will post it again if I have to.

So people need to stop writing this shit.

I will say it again -- the Clippers trade WAS NOT A GAME CHANGER for drafting.

Get it?

The right move? Only stupid organizations trade unprotected picks. The good ones won't put themselves in the position of having to rationalize giving another team a #1 overall pick. There will always be stupid organizations to take advantage of, but mostly you will be getting picks that have some sort of protection to prevent such a disaster. The Clippers made a mistake signing BD to that contract and in trying to correct it, they made an even bigger one.

As you said, it's a simple equation:

Mo + Moon <<<<<< Davis (insert nearly any other large contract) + unprotected 1st

That goes for any draft, even one as devoid of talent as this one was. Even if that pick didn't hit #1, the two picks combined might have been enough to get us the guy we really wanted out of this draft, which was Kyrie.

Swap Diddy and JJ for Roy and get Oden for 5/50.

Risk is obviously substantial. Reward could be off the charts. Plus those contracts end before TT and KI need to be extended.

Wasn't Detroit high on Thompson? High enough to make this deal? If they would trade us an unprotected 2012 pick for JJ I would do that first, but they won't. Both Hickson and Thompson are easily replaced, and if we could get a 2012 unprotected 1st rounder from a bad team for one of them (hell even both) then I would do it in a second.

That would be dumb as hell.

To me it would depend if I would trade both for unprotected picks. JJ no doubt, but I really would want to see Thompson play before we traded him. The only situation in which I trade Thompson and JJ for 2012 picks without seeing TT play is if Drummond was for sure in the class. Three chances at the Drummond is to good to pass up.

I know its early and all still...but I'd like to see some trades going on for the Cavies!
