Windhorst on All Bets Are Off...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Guys we aren't getting Howard..............Best anyone could Wish for to come out of Wally is Cardinal and Miller and I bet we don't even get anything that good.

best we can get is miller and cardinal? that is more like the fallback deal, in case we can't get anything better.

In July 2008, he was cited for going 94mph in a 55mph zone. Charged with speeding, careless and reckless driving, and speed competition

Was he by any chance in the same racing circuit that LeBron was in during the 07 season?

;)

I think we are going to get someone very good ect camby, amare or we will just keep wally unless we can get a high first round pick

I don't get the Cavs thinking. We will either trade for someone really good, or not at all? It makes no sense, because even someone remotely talented will be an upgrade over Wally. Two roleplayers who can fill our needs is better than Wally. The front office is really confusing me...

Of course the Cavs will set their sights high for what they'd like for Wally's contract but reality could turn out a little different.
The opportunity for an upgrade will be there. They should make a deal if it will bring a better player even if it isn't a high level or all star caliber talent. Getting the right kind of player shouldn't upset chemistry but will bring more talent into the rotation.

Mike Miller does continue to make sense to me as this type of player if a big time talent can't be acquired. Miller is having a down season but has had good solid and consistent production in recent seasons. He brings more talent, versatility and more athleticism than Wally provides while also having some of the same attributes that he brings and are used in the rotation.
I'd rather take back Mark Madsen's contract than Cardinal's since it's smaller.

The opportunity will be there to add more talent. The Cavs shouldn't pass it up.

From the view of the front office, for minor/fair upgrades, I don't think they want to keep paying luxury tax through the nose for the next few years, depending on the contracts. If they can get a starting caliber player who makes them significantly better, then paying the high tax is more bearable.

If they simply let Wally expire, we'll be around $70 million+ for next year? If they use his contract, we'll be over $80 million. The difference there with doubling up for luxury tax, which for us normal fans is a big deal, but with the economy being...ugly, it will cause owners/GM's to think more in terms of dollars then team makeup (well, you understand I think).

yea 20 mil is a chunk of money maybe ferry will send 1/20 of that my way

I'm pretty sure that when Windy says we're only looking to trade for a star caliber player means we're looking for that trade NOW. If, at the deadline, we can't find one of those trades, I'm sure we'd make another trade if it is a significant upgrade for our team.

Oh, and Megamansilly, how can you possibly say that Miller isn't much better than Wally? He's a much better shooter, rebounder, passer, ballhandler, and is more athletic. He's also younger and his contract expires before 2010. Your comments are ridiculous and unfounded.

That's the way I saw it too, but then the way everyone says that Gilbert is willing to spend so much, makes me think he wouldn't care about it but I guess he does if they're not trading Snow's contract. Oh well, with the odds being in favor of not trading Wally (not too many Pau-like trades are easy to pull off), I hope we beat them.

the need for a real second option was just shown in the form of being blown out by the lakers IMO.

Uhm, i'm sorry, correct me if im wrong.

so were a team lacking depth and we refuse to trade for depth?

wut?

Good thing David Wesley isn't on this team anymore...

We're only lacking depth when 2 of our starters are injured. With them in line, we have more depth than any of the elite teams who have a shot at the championship.

And as a few people have mentioned, not trading Wally means an extra 26 mil for Gilbert next year. However, he's willing to pay that 26 mil so long as it's for a player who gives us a significant chance to win a championship, but he's not going to pay 26 million dollars at a marginal upgrade who may make us better so long as they adapt to our system and don't cause any chemistry issues.

There's still a great chance someone will become available, because many NBA owners are losing money, and will be looking to stay below the luxury tax. I'm really curious to see if Portland will be willing to trade off one of their young stars in a package with one of their terrible contracts to get below the luxury tax. The franchise is hurting a bit, and the Darius Miles issue has pushed them well into the luxury tax waters, something they really wanted to avoid. I highly doubt it'd happen, but I'm still curious :)

the lakers are the deeper team when healthy.

Their rotation includes: Fisher/Kobe/Rad/Pau/Bynum farmer/vujacic/walton/ariza/odom

they've also gotten nice minutes from josh powell when he's played

I agree. Lakers are the deepest team in the league IMO. It never seemed like they had a bad player out there tonight.

I mean really. They lose NOTHING when going to their bench (besides if Kobe is sitting obviously).

Famar is one of the best backup PG's out there. Ariza is a great defender. Odom would start on most teams. Walton is just a solid all around player. Vujabitch is a lights out shooter and an annoying pesky defender.

As long as Wally is getting big time minutes on our team, I won't believe we can win it all. We need another player.

We can't go into the playoffs with our main 3 bench players being AV, Wally, and Boobie. That REALLY gives up one consistent bench player and then we have to pray Boobie and Wally are on from 3 because they're useless everywhere else.
