Your 2019 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
For people who want to punt this year and maybe make a go at competing next year, what would be some realistic trades?

Really if we did punt this season, looking to get as much talent as possible for Bauer, then whatever we can get for guys like Martin, Kipnis, Clippard, etc.

https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/cleveland-indians/yearly/payroll/

Essentially we would be getting rid of anyone who is a free agent at the end of the season/maybe is a free agent after next season and reload for 2020. It would be essentially get solid prospects for Bauer, plus getting money/international money/mid level prospects at best for Martin, Kipnis, etc, but we wouldn't do any buying unless we did a move like we did for Mercado where we trading younger A ball prospect for someone who is at AAA/border line MLB ready in a depth area of another organization.

Personally if I was punting, I would trade Bauer to a place like San Diego for likely one top prospect, my guess would be something like Urias, Quantrill and maybe Ty France type of deal (aka Urias and whoever else decent I can get lol). Then best offer regardless of place for Martin, Kipnis, Clippard, Otero, and Oliver Perez.

Then Mercado would be our everyday CF, Urias would replace Kipnis at 2nd, then the bullpen arms would be replaced by Sandlin, Karinchak(when healthy), Nelson etc to fill out the rest of the roster.

So the arbitration guesses are just my guesses, but the Indians should save another $4-$5m from 2019 to 2020 by doing next to nothing. They have an opportunity to make it near $20m by trading Bauer and getting back cost-controlled talent in return. Maybe then the Indians can reinvest at least half of that- if that is not too much to ask.

Otero has an option year I believe for next season as well for 1.5 mil, so they may not keep him on board even if he does have a good season and Neil Ramirez is at 1 mil so that's some savings there as well since they are replaceable from in house options. We also do have some extra spending money we haven't used this season yet, so if we do punt, it will be for 2020 for the playoffs i am hoping and not just fire sale everyone.

I'm firmly in the "see what you could get for Lindor" camp.

It's got to be the earth, the moon, and the stars, but you at least have to do the diligence of finding out at this point.

If we punt this season, then we take offers on anyone making over a million dollars on the roster and see what is out there, but don't trade guys like Lindor, Ramirez, Santana etc unless we get an offer we cannot refuse.

I still think we need to buy now while we aren't out of the race, but I guess I am in the minority overall.

Since 4/27:

Twins 21-8 +86
Yankees 19-7 +37
Red Sox 18-9 +73
Rays 15-10 +27
Indians 11-16 -17

Buying- especially on high salary one year players like EE or Eaton- while trending downwards and 10 games out in the Central would be so, so dumb

This stuck out to me a little

“After Roberto Pérez tapped a dribbler up the third-base line for the game-winning hit against the Rays on Friday, Jake Bauers shouted to the catcher across the clubhouse: “Sick fuckin’ hit, bro.”

“I’ll take that all day long,” Pérez replied.

“I’d take a thousand of ’em,” Bauers said.

It sure was fitting for the Indians to gut out a victory not with a majestic blast to the left-field bleachers, but with a 60-foot putt up the edge of the green.”

Ownership sabotaged the team.

Jose Ramirez not performing is huge though. He's not even average.

Hitting coach still has a job when this team scored 5+ runs twice.

Brantley's exit interview comment was something like this:

"Indians are in great hands, i hope to be apart of it"

That's the main loss because our OF is the worst in the bigs.

If Jose were playing up to the level we have come to expect, I think the Indians would firmly be in the Wild Card race until the end, especially with Clevinger coming back in a month. There is a big drop off from Brantley to replacement level left fielder, but a bigger drop off from MVP Jose to replacement level Jose.

Jose peaked in 2016. He has come short in big moments and has been less than stellar the last two seasons (this year included).

But then he asked the Indians for 4/$80M and didn't give them an opportunity to match his Houston deal. Yeah, really sounds like a guy who wanted to be a part of the Indians organization. But hey you can keep shouting from the rooftops that the Indians just let him go. He and his dad didn't want to be here anymore.

He finished 3rd in MVP voting LAST YEAR. Holy shit. Yeah he forgot how to hit a baseball this year. Wish I knew why but let's not act like this has been going on for years.

What is the purpose of trying to sound dumber just because the Indians are playing worse and worse?

Does losing cause people to be less rational because of their inability to cope with the emotions associated with losing?

Can anybody tell me anything about this Plesac dude that is starting tonight? He's Dan Plesac's son right?
