If i have a choice, in the perfect world to retool with this current roster into a true contender talentwise. Z will be gone, AV and West will come off the bench. Yes, only Mo and Lebron will be starters and MO will at best be a #3 scoring option.
So yes, it needs retooling, rebuilding, whatever you want to call it. Z can't have a place on a championship team, except being a 5th big. AV and west are good bench players. Say bye to Wally, he needs to retire. Say bye to ben, he needs to retire too.
We need players to play at their own proper role where his talents allow him to. We can't force a #4 option (Mo) to be a #2 option. We can't force bench players (AV and West) to be starters. We can't force players who has nothing left to be effective bench players (Ben Wally, Z). It is the reality.
I don't believe the matchups are THE PROBLEM, it is part of the problem, but matchup could be hedged. But the bigger part of the problem is that the Cavs has no one besides Lebron that could play bigtime in big time. Whatever happens with the Magic will happen eventually against a more talented team in the playoffs regardless of their style. They play you to a tight game, last 3 mins. Chances are, Lebron will be Lebron, Mo will go back to his #4 option self, Delonte will go back to being that multi-talented bench guy, AV be back to that bench Guy, Z will simply dissappear. Besides Lebron, evryone else will scrawl back to their comfort role where their talent allows them to be, there's no hiding it. And no chemistry can help to avoid this from eventually happening.
When you have Hedo deferring to Shard, or Shard deferring to Dwight (vice versa) in crunch time, that's real chemistry, because each great player have their own strength and a big ego, it takes a lot to defer to one another and say maybe this time it is better for you to make the impact, when you can do that and had success with it during the course of the season, it does not takes any photo-ops to build it. They don't need to love being around each other, that does not help what to do with the last 3 mins of a tight playoff game. It is the same with Boston KG/Ray/PP last season. The Cavs, on the otherhand, does not have another player (not to say 2) that does any one thing better Lebron himself. Lebron is even hitting his 3pt better than anyone else in these playoffs. Comparing the egos of the role players and Lebron, are like peanuts to watermelon, as Lebron is just too much better than anyone else on this team. Everyone automatically defers to Lebron in crunch time, and happily too. Every team in the nba knows that, and they know that until the Cavs get a true #2 guy (someone thats better than Lebron in SOMETHING offensively, when you throw hime the ball, It could be a true pg, it could be a great post player. ) they are going to defend the Cavs the same way, year after year. Getting Mo williams is always a plus, because that makes the Cavs more consistent offensively in the regular season (thus 66wins), but in terms of actual competitiveness in the playoffs, there's no difference between this year and last year. Except Lebron is a whole lot better this year by himself.
I have no idea how Ferry could make it work, but if the 66 wins is gonna cloud his judgement, then this postseason (if they lose) will really be a total waste, as when you are exposed, you want your management to look clearly on the true colors and calibers of your own players. Don't keep going back the 66wins and lie to yourself, Danny.
