Win or lose this series and championship, we need to make some moves

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think that Danny Ferry was planning on making moves this summer anyways whether we won a championship or not. When he acquired the contracts of Wally and Ben I knew he would be looking for some help via trade and I still think this summer something will be done. He knows Lebron is not looking for a championship here and there, but he wants to win multiple championships and build a dynasty. The Chinese investment group will help alot with relief for Dan Gilbert. I wouldnt be surprised to see some other NBA teams go down this road. One of David Stern's biggest goals going forward is to make the NBA even more global so you know he will pushing the owners down this kind of road. I think some young big will certainly be acquired this offseason. The thing I am excited about is the fact that Danny has some flexibility because he can acquire a ton of draft picks if needs to make a trade to work. Also, I have the feeling he will use another organization to make a 3 or 4 team deal.

Anyways, with all this said something in me is telling me that we are going to come back and win these next 3 games. My main point with this post was that the Cavaliers Organization is looking forward regardless of how far we get this year. Moves will be made and this team will be better. The whole front office knows the magnitude of this summer and upcoming season. Lebron obviously hangs in the balance so things will be done. I know it's tough being optimistic as Cleveland sports fans, but there is nothing else we can do. I have travelled around this country alot and there is no doubt to me that this fanbase is the best there is. You all make me proud to be a northeast Ohioan.

this is win now trade. i tried to get tyson chandler but we would end up giving up too much to match salaries.

i want amare. hes a much better player than bosh. the suns also probably want to get rid of a nasty contract like jason richardsons so here is a little pipedream. we would lose a little defense but i think we would be straight filth

the salries match up so well its scary

PG: Mo Williams/ Jason Kidd (MLE)
SG: Jason Richardson/ FA
SF: Lebron James/ Kinsey
PF: A'mare Stoudemire/ Joe Smith/ Darnell Jackson
C: Anderson Varejao/ Z

we could run like no other

Stop what ever your smoking and take it to the Q tomorrow night and give it to the Magic.

Really you have lost your mind.

I've held off on "next year" posts since the trade deadline, but the direction these posts are going leave me confused.

We need youth in the front court, and I will lobby for a young center until I am blue in the balls.

That said, we are a backup small forward who isn't named Wally or Sasha away from matching up with this team exceptionally well. Wally looked okay at times last night, but his knee puts him in plenty of bad positions on help defense and closing out on shooters. When everyone was calling Sasha our savior, I hated to be the guy who painfully brought up Sasha's biggest flaw: he is a deer in the headlights on the road. Our gameplan was to double off Skip's man to help and let him shoot from the outside. In Rafer's career, he will have one explosive game for every 2 or 3 terrible games. We just witnessed his one good game.

Delonte has been playing fairly well, but in big minutes he gets tired and loses his main advantage over Hedo: speed.

Give me a long SF who is a defender in the draft, sign me AV and pick up Gortat for the MLE, and I'm a happy camper.

Let me expand upon your preferences for the draft...I think we would do very well to pick up a traditional SG. We flat out don't have one on this roster who can score (No, delonte is not one, he is a combo guard...and Sasha is a SF). Someone like Counrtney Lee. Someone you can bring off the bench who is either a scorer or a statsheet stuffer and play good defense. Good ones in this draft projected in the Cavs' range are Terrence Williams, Marcus Thornton, Wayne Ellington

Hopefully we can either get a hard-nosed PF/C type (Josh Heytvelt, Jeff Pendergraph, Luke Nevill), a big long SF who can play inside and out (Sam Young, DaJuan Summers, Damion James), or the SG i talked about.

The whole point here is to balance our offensive attack as much as possible. And right now, it ain't balanced. I'd say about 80-90% of our points are generated by 4 starters (James, West, Mo, Z). And fatigue is hitting them in this series.

I think if they trade Ben Wallace, they should bring him back the same way Joe Smith came back.

he brings a toughness presence, he still plays good defense, and I love this comment of his:

"Come out there and do something about it or shut the **** up is what I tell him." about Stan Van Gundy's flopping claims.

but I completely agree Northstar, I said the same thing midway this season, that if we win the championship, we will win it by a nick. all the other elite teams will improve, so we need to also.

We are seriously still only one key piece away. We were one key piece away at the deadline and Ferry sat on his hands because of some team chemistry bull shit. You can't hoist up team chemistry at the end of the season and they don't throw parades for best team chemistry at the end of the year!

We needed the piece, didn't get it, and we still only need one more effective player.

The games we've lost to Orlando haven't been blowouts by any means. One small addition of an effective player would have tipped the scales in our favor. Shit, if Mo just shows up in the 2nd half of game 4, or any game before, we're winning this.

We either need a TALL wing defender, or a big that can score or defend in the paint. I know you all love Delonte, but his size is still allowing him to get abused like he's in foster care. Our front line is older than the guy who says he's going to take Barkley to school in his commercial.

I can't see Wally and Joe being here, maybe one, but definitely not both. Ben and Sasha will hpefully be traded so we can get that ring.

I haven't lost all faith in still winning this, but let's say the level of my faith is about as high as the odds of us making a comeback.

Chris Kaman From the Clippers looks to be available and we all wanted him last trade deadline. Also im going to keep bringing up his name but BJ Mullens looks to be a nice prospect. 7' with a work in progress jump shot, athleticism, and youth. Everything we need in a Center.

The backup 3 is an issue that i'd love to have solved. Ariza would be perfect but I just can't see the Lakers letting him go at the rate he's playing.

I know it sounds like a pipe dream but I think we have a great chance to get Amare this summer, or as good as we'll ever get. Having him on this team with Mo and LeBron, regardless of who we have to give up, would make us potentially one of the greatest teams ever. And I guarantee Amare would solidify himself as the best 4 in the game, with the defensive mindset and teaching abilities of the team, and the space in the paint that he would get playing next to perimeter bigmen lile Z and Andy.

We came close earlier in the year, but Phoenix decided to make one last run for the playoffs. After we complete a historic run to the Championship this year, it'll be time to bring the unstoppableness that is Amare Stoudemire to Cleveland.

Shawn Marion & Jason Kidd

Do you seriously have to go into & ruin every thread with your trade deadline talk..

Almost every thread has been made into this now..

Just stay on topic.. moves we could make in the offseason

Damn, just let it ****ing go.. it was 3 months ago now.. no trades happened, let it go!

So I harped on the trade deadline this season for a second, but then I got on topic! Read the part about needing either a tall wing defender or a post presence. Still the same thing we needed at the deadline so I'll say it as many times as I want because I'm pissed nothing happned. I'll ****ing let it go when we aren't losing this series because of inaction.

My main point was that we don't need a major overhaul. We're a minor, repeat, minor piece away from sweeping the Magic in this series. All it would take is a tall wing to check Hedo and handle his own scoring, or an upgraded post presence over Ben Wallace/Joe Smith.

I'm not going to say that we need to trade Z or that he's done. I'd rather him be a bench player at this stage in his career, but he's still head and shoulders above Ben Wallace and Joe Smith. Even a simple upgrade like Gortat would be huge in this series compared to what we're throwing at Howard right now.

So I've bursted all the Jow Smith lover's bubble, now on to the Delonte lovers. He's a bench player on most teams. I love his heart and defense, but he is not the answer at 2 guard. Someone is finally exploiting his height disadvantage that has existed all along. Remember when we had the tallest team in the league? We got to the finals on Lebron + tall defenders alone. Guess what? We don't have the height anymore. Basketball is a tall man's game. I love him off the bench, but we need to get taller.

Ok, people will disagree with me, but the only guy that is un-tradeable is Lebron, and Mo to a certain extent. Everyone says Delonte, AV, etc, but if we were offered Chris Bosh and one of those guys was the key, I would do it in a heart beat. Now, I would not trade Delonte or AV for:

1. An aging player.

2. An unproven young player, I would even be on the fence about a guy like Griffin.

It would have to be a sure fire star. Now, Mo, I know he has not played well in the playoffs, but there are guys who have been known to disappear before but became strong playoff performers later on. Rashard, for example, I believe was always known for disappearing in the playoffs on Seattle, however we have seen how well he has played. With that said, PG is such an important and hard position to fill, we would have to bring a sure fire guy that we are also sure we could keep. I would not even trade Mo for Amare because of Amare's D and his contract. However, if by some miracle we were offered a playoff performer at the PG position for Mo (Devin Harris, Tony Parker, etc) then I would definitely consider it.

Basically, I am not trading LBJ for even Team USA, and I am not trading Mo for anything but a sure fire star on the rise. I am not trading Delonte for anything but a great player on the rise or a star with an expiring contract. I would trade AV for a decent upgrade. Everyone else, anything goes.

Also, while we could be offered a miracle deal, I don't see us trading Hickson. Ferry got him with the intent of him becoming our future forward, and while he is a huge question mark right now, some people say he has huge potential. For now, I am cautiously putting him as our future PF.

So:

PG: Mo Williams
SG: Delonte (though this is a question mark)
SF: the King
PF: Hickson
C: Who the F could answer this?

6th man: Delonte (this is what I meant, I think we could trade for an upgrade at the wing and he would be a fantastic 6th man)

So, for now, Mo, Delonte, LBJ, and JJ is the core, IMO, with AV also loosely a part of it, though he would be great trade bait if we could re-sign him.

I agree with you 100%. I'm confused when we talk about Z being a bench player and/or Delonte should be a 6th man some people here go all crazy as if we hate those guys.

We need size in the backcourt and need some more athleticism and scoring from the front court.

Ferry is NOT done building this team. MB and the organization want a defensive team here and while we have been a very good teams like Orlando show that we have not come that far. If we want to be a true defensive team then we should be able to STOP everybody, espcially for one damn possesion and as Lebron pointed out we have not been able to get ONE stop in this series. Alot of that is because of the personnel we have here.

Putting Delonte and Z on the bench would automatically solve our problem of not having any production from the bench. I think Z playing against other bench players from opposing teams would be good for him. Delonte is proving that he can play against opposing starters so he should be able to abuse other bench players.

I personally would love to get a guy like Ariza and an Amare/Bosh caliber PF. I just don't see that happening though.

That doesn't mean Ferry should give up, I'm sure he will try his best this offseason. I just hope the whole "team chemistry" and "this guy doesn't play defense" does not stop him from making a move.
