Elton Brand?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's pretty risky, but we have the depth if we needed to rest him awhile to get really healthy. We could play him fewer minutes, and there would not be a problem trading Big Ben next year. I don't think AV would resign tho, and so we would be looking at Brand, Z after his contract, and JJ. That could be pretty good, but man it seems so risky.

Honestly, I think it is riskier than planning on JJ making that kind of contribution in the next 2 years.

Brand only played 8 minutes tonight? Anybody know what the scoop is? Did he get hurt again?

No Clue, but he's only averaged 20 minutes a game coming off the bench since he came back from his injury.

Brand is really looking like more and more of a deal for three reasons:

1.) He's worth very little to philadelphia based on how badly he's played inside their scheme.

2.) Injury issues, and his slow comeback from the shoulder injury make him less useful to teams who need to compete (i.e. need him to start playing 40 MPG) today

3.) His long contract makes him unattractive to any team looking to get into the Summer of Lebron Marathon in 2010.

I think point 1 means that he's not going to stay in Philadelphia, especially if they can get an expiring and some picks.

I think point 2 means that he's only attractive to the 8 or so teams (Cavs, Magic, Celtics, Pistons, Lakers, Spurs, Nuggets, Trailblazers) who have already all but locked up a playoff run (or think they have, for detroit). Some of those teams, he'll be less attractive to because he's largly redundant (Spurs, Trailblazers, Celtics)

Of the 6 teams left, number 3 means, that he's unattractive to anybody trying to get into the derby for the big 2010 free agents (Pistons, Magic)... because they want cap space, and aren't mostly worried about locking up their own superstar using the larry bird exception.

That really only leaves a few teams who would want his services, and given that he's not working out in philadelphia at all, means that we could get him very very cheap, given his massive talents.

No injury. I don't even think he was the first one off the bench. What I saw tonight was the Sixers of last year, the young, energized, running team that went on that run the 2nd half of the season to make the playoffs and take Detroit to 6 games. They drafted a guy like Speights who's running with them and finishing on the break, the running PF they needed all along was under their nose. He's no Josh Smith, but he's young and athletic. As of right now, I'm almost 100% sure that Brand could be had for an expiring alone. He won't be traded until very close to the deadline because the Sixers will try to milk him for what he's worth. But I doubt any team will offer much. He just doesn't fit in and they have a much bigger chance of winning games without him. Even tough ones like tonight, they almost had it. If Ferry really wanted Brand, we could get him easily.

Now only if W&G let us know if we have any interest in Brand...

I'd only trade for a contract running past 2010 IF and ONLY if Ferry truly believes he'd be a valuable asset in a trade for Bosh. Only because I am really starting to believe we can nab Bosh either in a trade or as a FA this summer or next season.

I just don't think that you can pass up on somebody with Brand's talents just because it decreases your already slim chances of obtaining Bosh.... if the Heat were to offer Beasley for Bosh, for instance, there's nothing we could do to match that, no matter what we set up.

If Brand is anything like the Brand of 2 years ago (hoping that this slump is just based on team dynamics), than we become instant championship favorites.... LBJ/Brand/Z/Williams/West is such an amazing starting lineup 1-5, capable of scoring inside or outside from every position....that I don't think anybody could stop us come playoff time when those guys are playing 30+ minutes together

The only reason I don't like discussing a Brand deal is because there has been no rumor, not even the SLIGHTEST HINT, that we could be after him besides Chad Ford's opinion. I love discussing trades but I wish there was some type of backing to this. I mean the Camby story has been around and W&G even put him out as a #1 possibility, but as happy as I would be with an acquistion like Brand, I can't get excited unless I have a feeling Ferry's after him.

Just pass on Brand, go for a guy like Camby and maybe another guard.........

I think I will be happy when the trade deadline comes and goes, though less so if we don't trade for anyone... no more roller-coaster-like highs and lows.

this is how ferry works. he doesnt let anything out, then BAM. 3 way trade. happenend last year and it happened with Mo

i think we should just past too...things dont seem to right in philly with brand....i dont think he is 100% and things seem a little shaky over there...

It's because Philly is an up-tempo team, and Brand running the floor and clogging the lane and taking Speights' minutes just hurts the,

He's a terrible fit there

i understand that but im worried he'll never get back to 100%

I remember a healthy and efficient Elton Brand from 2 years ago, I can see his stat sheet and imagine those points/rebounds/blocks being made for the Cavaliers -- but at the same time he's near the beginning of a 6 year contract worth $80M. If we trade for Brand and he's not fully recovered from last year, or is just falling off with age or condition, then nobody will pick that contract up. So Brand, has a huge risk factor attached to any trade possibility -- and while the benefit is obvious (likely championship), then risk may simply be too great for a team such as ours considering we're at the cusp of a championship as currently constructed.

In contrast, a safer trade that would bring in Richard Jefferson (3 years left), Camby (2 years), or Carter (3 years?) would be much better considering risk/benefit.

I dunno, I'm probably not as caught up on Elton Brand's more recent games to feel comfortable making an educated guess, but I'd rather have Carter, Jefferson, or maybe even Camby just because Brand might not pan out for us and then we'd be royally screwed for years to come.

At this point, Brand is not a risk this team needs to take. We are not desperate by any means, so again i would pass........
