Windhorst: Kaman and Camby on Cavaliers' radar

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With the Clippers most likely to draft Griffin, Kaman should be available. Camby less so since he is productive and only has one year left compared to three for Kaman. However, this is the Clippers so it wouldn't surprise me if they kept them all........

With the way Orlando's defense is designed to funnel any penetration to the paint toward's Howard, he would have to stay with Kaman and not cheat because Lebron, Delonte, or Mo would make him pay.

I'd prefer Okafor or Chandler, but Kaman would be pretty nice. Seriously though, if we got him I'd be terrified about his injury concerns. Sure Chandler and Okafor have had a couple issues before, but Kaman has never had a non-injury-plagued season.

But I've also heard LA are desperate to move him, so if we can get him for Boobie or even Sasha and a pick, I'd love it. If he can stay healthy, he could work pretty well with Villanueva.

Looking at who the Cavs could realistically get Kaman or Camby wouldn't be bad..Captain Kaveman is young not a bad center to team with Z and any other frontcourt player brought in..

Also when you think about it, look at the people Ferry traded for. They always seem to be either, underestimated, or not appreciated enough. No one thought that Delonte could be our starting PG and SG, I mean he was what 3rd guard for SEATTLE? People thought Mo was a cancer, and couldn't play for a championship team..

Look at Kamans situation. Injury prone the last 2 years, but before that he was fine. Now that they're bringing in the #1 draft pick (griffin) it makes Kaman expandable. Kinda how Mo was expandable because of Sessions. I think he could fit here real nice. When he was the only option to go into the post (when brand got injured) he put up 15.7ppg, 12.7 rpg (3 offensive, 9 defensive), 2.8 bpg. This is all while shooting 48% from the field and shot 76% from the line.

I'm on the bandwagon!

Hes a beast already, imagine what he would do with all the easy passes LBJ would give him and with Z as his back up i think we can limit his injuries...

I think Kaman would be an excellent pickup, legit 7"0, 260lbs and fairly athletic for a big guy. I think you'd need to put a floor spacer at PF next to him though, Andy would not cut it.

Im guessing Ferry will make a push for him, weren't the Cavs interested in him last summer?

With Blake Griffin coming on board the Clippers should be interested in moving him and/or Randolph.

And Camby.

Two out of the three could be good players for the Cavs.

I didn't think we had the right pieces to get Kaman at the trade deadline, despite some signs that the Clippers were considering moving him. Winning the lottery changes everything. The Clippers have an oddly matched roster and need to move contracts. I am sure they will try to move Baron Davis and Randolph, but once they realize there is no market, Kaman could be had.

What I find interesting about Kaman is that he is still learning the game. In the past two years, he has switched off Ritalin and began an experimental treatment for his learning disability.

My biggest issue with him in the past was poor decision making on the court and questionable fundamentals, but they have been noticeably improved when healthy.

I don't know if choosing between Okafor and Kaman on talent is going to be an issue for the Cavaliers, as much as what Charlotte and the Clippers are asking for in return.

Thats the question... What exactly is LA looking for in a return for Kamen? Young talent, a salary dump, bigs, guards, vets, picks? Im still trying to figure that one out.

Im guessing a useless player with an expiring contract, and season tickets to the Lakers??

Re: Windhorst: Kaman and Camby on Cavaliers' radar.

-8.6 per 48 minutes

Yeah, playing for the Clippers doesn't really help that....

He wouldn't be a -8.6 starting on a team with LeBron James.

That's one of the various reasons why +/- numbers can be deceiving

the only thing that concerns me about kaman is his health. but if he stays healthy he could be a great addition for us. a legit 7 footer with above average athleticim and very skilled on the offensive end isn't easy to find in this league

I was wondering about this also. Maybe they want/need a little bit of everything? I like the idea of Kaman more than Chandler. I also like the idea of adding some height to SG even though I think West does a great job for his size. So I used Out of the Rafters at the Q's Preliminary Offseason thread to view the possible trade options for the wing. I came up with this three way trade. Let me know what you think.

Cleveland
In: Chris Kaman, Richard Jefferson
Out: Sasha Pavlovic, Ben Wallace, Darnell Jackson

Move out pieces that I think most will agree should be moved at some point this season and improve on our two biggest weaknesses, C and SG height.

Milwaukee
In: Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic
Out: Richard Jefferson, Charlie Bell, Joe Alexander

Saves them money so they can resign both of their young free agents.

Los Angeles
In: Darnell Jackson, Charlie Bell, Joe Alexander
Out: Chris Kaman

Since I don't really know what they want I just added depth and youth to their backcourt and frontcourt. Plus they move their often injured center... I want to add that I think his injuries won't be a big problem here, I consider his problems to be part of the fate of the Clippers team.
