What should the Cavs get for Anderson Varejao?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Every contender needs someone like Varejao. The Bulls had Rodman,The bad boys pistons had Laimbeer, the new era Pistons had their Ben Wallace, The Lakers had Trevor Ariza and now Artest, Spurs had Bruce Bowen and even the Big 3 in Boston had an Anchor of a defender not only in KG but in Perkins whose absence cost them the title last year.

If Washington got a young prospect, an expiring and a 2nd round pick for Jamison then we could probably do better on a deal with Varejao.

While you pointed out very good examples of what Andy is worth to a contender, show me where any of those players where traded and they got back a significant player. One prospect is about what we could hope for. Not a prospect, cap relief and picks. Way too much for Andy. Now for Andy and Boobie, i could see a bit more. Both will have value too championship contenders.

^^^I think none of those players I mentioned was traded besides Bruce Bowen who is certainly going up in age and even in that trade the Spurs got Richard Jefferson in return.

Jefferson was a salary dump, and i do agree Andy should get us something back of value. But i think some are setting the sites a bit high on how much value.

And because Andy is a all defensive level player and Amir Johnson is not, Andy does have more value than Amir, but his lack of offensive abilities will hurt him. And what is glaring is how bad this team is and yet Andy still cant average double figures in points. Still, I think Andy plays championship style basketball. There are not alot of players on our current roster I would say that about.

I think the examples show that players like that are very important to being successful and in most cases the teams want to keep them. In Andy's case it's too bad that very important piece is not "the" most important piece. I just hate to give up any significant piece unless it's a no brainer that the new piece is significantly more important. If we can't get that, you don't move him...

We'll give you guys Duhon, QBerto, and the awesome project of Daniel Orton for AV :chuckles:

I have never seen you say less while saying more. :chuckles:

Its like you just wrote one long run-on haiku, lol

But I think i agree.

Fine. . . we'll throw in Malik Allen, but that's it!!!

In all seriousness, whatwould the Magic possibly be willing to give up for Andy? Is Orton the only thing of possible value that they have that is tradable for them?

Sometimes I just don't know how to express my feelings without continuously repeating myself.

And yes, I know you agree…

Maybe Bass or JJ, not too sure though. . . Otis likes those guys a lot. Guard rotation is crowded and Bass absolutely blows on help defense/rotations. Thing is that I don't think Otis would be willing to trade for AV's contract. I think the pay roll is high enough and the only way AV would see 30+ minutes (to satisfy his contract) would be by trading Bass. Then the problem there becomes a lack of spacing.

Ideally AV would be good coming off the bench for backup C and backup PF, which should net him a fair amount of minutes. But then Orlando loses versatility being able to play conventional/stretch four.

Then again, it's possible that that frontline could make up offensively by not allowing teams to score at all. . .

I would have been tempted by a Bass and Gortat for Varejao and filler deal, but you don't have Gortat anymore, so you have nothing else I would want other than Bass, and he isn't enough.

Right, his value is what most other energy players value is.

Someone needs to find an example of a team giving up something serious in return for an energy big man. You simply won't find it.

Andy is more than an "energy" big-man. He's an all-NBA defender and a great rebounder. You don't see any examples of it because when teams get players like that, they generally don't trade them.
